Criminal Code charges have been approved following a Surrey Police Service (SPS) investigation into an alleged assault with a weapon in Whalley.

On February 14, 2026, at approximately 12:05 am, two males allegedly assaulted a female at a business in the 10200 block of City Parkway. A witness intervened, and the two males then allegedly assaulted the witness with a weapon before leaving the area. The man who intervened suffered numerous cuts to one of his arms and a bite wound. He was treated at scene by BCEHS.

SPS Frontline members attended the scene and SPS’s Major Crime Section assumed conduct of the investigation and were able to later identify and arrest a suspect. 

On February 24, 2026, charges were approved by the BC Prosecution Service against one man.   

24-year-old D’Ian Lloyd Ronald McLeod has been charged with the following offences:

  • One count of assault causing bodily harm, contrary to section 267(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of failing to comply with a release order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

He remains in custody pending his next court appearance on March 9, 2026.
