Criminal Code charges have now been sworn against a woman in connection to a Surrey Police Service (SPS) assault investigation stemming from alleged unauthorized physical contact with infants in the Surrey Memorial Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit on October 28, 2025. 

Lindsey Susan Hirtreiter, a 35-year-old woman, has been charged with three counts of assault contrary to S.266 of the Criminal Code. Hirtreiter currently remains in custody and her next scheduled court appearance is on December 1, 2025. 

The media and public are advised that there is currently a publication ban in place on aspects of this case and reporting or posting certain pieces of information may contravene that ban. For information about the ban and what is covered, please contact the Surrey Provincial Court registry. 

As this matter is now before the courts and a publication ban is in place, police are unable to provide additional comments.
