Man Charged After Violent Incident
2025-36068 (SP)
Criminal Code charges have now been approved against a man following an incident yesterday afternoon in north Surrey.
Surrey Police Service (SPS) were called by a resident of a trailer on a property near 113b Avenue and 124 Street at approximately 2:45 pm about a man who was allegedly breaking the trailer’s windows with an axe and threatening both residents.
By the time SPS Frontline officers arrived, the suspect had gone into a house on the same property. Officers were unable to convince the man to exit the residence, so the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team (LMD ERT) were called to assist.
At approximately 6:30 pm, the suspect and another resident of the house exited and were taken into custody by LMD ERT and SPS officers.
William Sumner, a 39-year-old man, has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon, two counts of uttering threats, and two counts of mischief over $5,000. Sumner was also arrested for two outstanding Surrey Police Service warrants for possession of a weapon while prohibited and possession of a firearm without a licence related to a March 29, 2025, SPS investigation.
William Sumner remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.
