SPS News Release

File: 25-7368 (SP)

Surrey Police Service (SPS) is asking for the public’s assistance with a historical investigation of an aggravated assault that left the victim with life-altering injuries.

On September 8, 2024, at approximately 12:38 a.m., police responded to a report of a disturbance at a park located near 120 Street and 70 Avenue. Upon arrival, Surrey RCMP officers located two male victims who had been assaulted.

Both victims, men aged 18 and 22 at the time, were transported to hospital. While the younger victim was released from hospital after receiving treatment for minor injuries, the older male was placed on life-support and faced an uncertain medical outcome because of the severity of the brain and head trauma he suffered.

A news release and public appeal were conducted at the time by Surrey RCMP with the hope that witnesses and the other people involved would come forward. Although some information and evidence resulted from this appeal, SPS detectives are again asking for assistance to advance the investigation and to provide answers to the victim and his family. Police are hopeful that now, just after the second anniversary of the incident, people will provide information understanding the seriousness of the injuries that victim sustained.

SPS investigators are also releasing two images of a possible suspect vehicle, a Dodge Durango, that left the area prior to police arrival (see attached images).

If you were in the area of 120 Street and 70 Avenue between 12:00 am and 1:00 am on Sunday, September 8, 2024, and have not spoken to police, call the SPS at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 25-7368 (SP) or 2024-134124 (SU). If you wish to remain anonymous you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
