SPS Notifies IIO of Officer-Involved Shooting

Surrey Police Service has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Surrey where an individual has been injured in an officer-involved shooting.
Shortly before 8:00 pm on March 29, 2026, Surrey Police Service Frontline officers attended a residence in the 13400 block of 81 Avenue for a report that an individual had a weapon. As officers attempted to take the man into custody, the man reportedly confronted officers while holding an edged weapon. Officers fired their service weapons, including a duty pistol.
Officers and BC EHS paramedics administered medical interventions, and the affected person was transported to hospital, where they were reported as receiving treatment for minor injuries.
The IIO BC was notified by SPS, asserted jurisdiction, and is investigating police actions in the incident. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police. Please contact the IIO BC with any inquiries.
